UT Campus Shooting

According to sources, the bizarre shooting at the University of Texas at Austin campus began at 8am CST on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. The suspect, now identified as a lone student, began firing an assault rifle as he ran through the campus. He then ran into the library where he made his way to the sixth floor before turning the gun on himself. He was pronounced dead by police.

A friend of mine inside the chaos said there were policemen, dogs, swat teams and tanks as they evacuated all 50,000 people on campus into the health building. She was scared and all were told they could not leave. Police from all over Austin came to aide in the search for a possible second gunman. The "all clear" was given by police just before 2pm CST.

There are no other reported injuries in this shooting and police have not released the name of the gunman nor any possible motives for the situation. A shooting of this nature has not occurred on the UT campus since 1966.

  1. Actually some of the students were in other buildings, or in their dorms. I guess that all the students that were in the buildings near the PCL were evacuated to the health center. I saw later in the news that the area where my classroom is was the area were all the SWAT teams were. When we were finally able to go, after 3 hours, the area near the PCL was still closed. It was really scary, we were all worried about our friends and we were all testing each other to make sure we're all fine and safe.

  2. I'm glad you're okay!! I have several other friends who work and/or go to school there as well. It was a relief to find out only the gunman was injured, as sad as that is.
